The community histories presented here focus on events that occurred from the 1950s through the 1970s, when Qikiqtani Inuit migrated from Inuit nunagivaktangat into these new permanent settlements.
While the thirteen Qikiqtani communities share a common past, each has a unique story to tell that forms a distinct part of the Baffin Region’s history: most of these communities have never before been the subject of such detailed study.
Commission historians are currently updating individual community histories.
